Hoy Future Stars

28th January 2016

On Saturday 23rd January 2016 Benjamin Moody, a year 10 student, took part in the Hoy Future Stars track cycling revolution series for boys and girls aged between 15-17 at Manchester Velodrome. This competition is a series of races throughout the winter and runs alongside and on the same night as a competition for some of the world’s top professional cyclists. Recent competitors have included Mark Cavendish and Sir Bradley Wiggins. It was an exciting evening of fast racing televised live by Eurosport. On the evening Ben was naturally nervous but performed excellently. The team Benjamin was racing for, JLT Condor was unfortunate in losing one of its pro riders due to illness, however due to this Benjamin was asked to ride up in the Professionals Madison kilo, he was partnered with Felix English a seasoned professional who will be at RIO 2016 representing Ireland. This is a fantastic achievement for Ben and we are looking forward to seeing his passion and talent progress even further, he is hoping to one day take part in the Tour De France!

LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) month

20th January 2016

During February 2016, The Morley Academy is holding it's first LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) month which is LGBT history month annually. We will be showing our support of people who do not identify as 100% heterosexual and celebrating their successes. This is to teach students to tolerate people of all types and allow everyone in the school community to feel comfortable and accepted. We will be delivering assemblies and presentations to students, encouraging students to challenge homophobia and providing drop in sessions for students to talk. We hope to increase acceptance and support for one another in the school whilst allowing students to be true to themselves. If you have any questions related to the LGBT month please do not hesitate to contact Miss Baker directly.
